About / Bios



Kirk has been in the television production business for over 16 years.  Beginning his career as an editor for Canada’s top two national news networks (CBC and CTV), Kirk learned how to use his time efficiently, find the story quickly and tell it effectively.

His move into cable television came in 2000, when he began to cut series for networks such as YTV, W Network, TVO and Vision.  From editing, Kirk made the natural move into producing and directing.  He was able to bring his talent to the field, elevating the visual and narrative of JV Productions’ content along with each character’s performance.  With a keen eye and imaginative use of shot selection, Kirk knows how to make the choices that have the maximum impact for each scene and each episode; and he uses the same discerning eye to guide his editors in post-production – knowing that sometimes five frames can make all the difference in the world. 

As a consummate gear head, Kirk stays on top of what is new and cutting-edge in the camera and editing world.  Always trying to make JV stand out over its competitors, he has hand-picked each camera, as well as established new editing techniques and directing styles for each new series that goes to air – ensuring the company maintains its signature look and singular reputation for high-quality productions in Canada and the US.

In addition, Kirk not only helped create the successful Selling series brand for HGTV US, but he is also one of the Executive Producers at the company.  With his unique vision and his colossal creativity, he plays a vital role in the development of new series and talent for JV, motivating the team to push themselves to go beyond good and make great TV.
